Overview
Opera Colorado's 25th Anniversary Season opens with the beauty and grandeur of Verdi's tragic love story in a revival of the 2004 production that brought Denver audiences to their feet. Lush costumes and lavish scenery set the stage for one of opera's most beautiful and heartbreaking romances.

Violetta Valery is a beautiful courtesan in 18th-century Paris who, despite her best efforts, falls in love with the nobleman Alfredo Germont. Their affair leads Alfredo's father to beg Violetta to end the relationship for fear that scandal will ruin the family. Violetta lies to Alfredo, telling him she no longer loves him, and returns to Paris. The lovers are finally reunited just before Violetta's fatal illness consumes her.

Opera Colorado Artistic Director James Robinson will direct this popular production which he originally conceived with Scenic Designer Bruno Schwengl. Maestro Stephen Lord (Norma, 2006; Carmen, 2005), who was recently named one of the top 25 opera artists by Opera News, will conduct. Sung in Italian with English and Spanish subtitles.

This is a co-production with Boston Lyric Opera.
