Opera Colorado Archives: Stefano de Peppo as Dr. Bartolo in The Marriage of Figaro (2019)

Baritone Stefano de Peppo’s portrayal of Dr. Bartolo, the ruthless lawyer, is best summarized by his rapid-fire ode to vengeance in “La vendetta.” In this clip, the embittered Bartolo agrees to represent Marcellina (mezzo-soprano Margaret Gawrysiak) pro-bono in her case against Figaro.
Mr. de Peppo was set to return to the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in May of 2020 for Puccini’s Tosca, before it was cancelled due to COVID-19.

Listen to him… but watch her – she’s a first-rate actor
You’re so right, Mike. You can tell exactly what’s going through her mind, and what she needs to do, just by watching her and how she reacts. The perfect actor is not always that one who ACTS, but is ALSO the one who REACTS!
You are TOTALLY right! She is amazing!
Thank you for sharing this clip! Di Peppo is amazing.
And as a new season ticket holder, depending on how COVID-19 restrictions go, I am hoping Opera Colorado will consider airing performances via the Internet instead of cancellation should restrictions persist or return in the fall. Having already paid for next year’s season, I would rather not miss the shows, especially if the performers have already been practicing.
Hi Erin,
We totally understand your concerns. We are in constant communication with city/state officials and we will relay any changes as soon as we hear of them. We’re hoping to see you again at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House!

And REACTING to ACTING is not easy!
It would be wonderful if you could go way back in your archives- Jon Vickers as Samson, Domingo as Rodolfo and highlight from the production of Ariadne auf Naxos.
Thanks.
