OPERA ON TOUR: Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck

Offered: October–May
Grade Level: All Ages
Cost: $600 for one performance; $700 for two back-to-back performances

Follow the trail of breadcrumbs to Opera Colorado’s production of the beloved fairytale Hansel and Gretel. Stranded in the Magic Forest, things look “Grimm” indeed for Gretel and her brother Hansel. What follows is an enchanted odyssey through a magical forest and a house made of gingerbread. The pair encounters everything from a magical Sandman to a witch with a sweet tooth who really likes kids—well done, that is! Sung in English and staged traditionally, this enchanting performance is sure to entertain. A unique and creative way to incorporate classical literature and fairytales into your curriculum!

OPERA ON TOUR: Romeo & Juliet by Charles Gounod

Offered: February–May
Grade Level: 6th–12th Grade
Cost: $600 for one performance; $700 for two back-to-back performances

Experience the timeless story of Romeo & Juliet in a powerful, modernized production. Sung primarily in English with portions of the original French, this unique version weaves Shakespeare’s text with Gounod’s expressive melodies. This performance offers an accessible way to bring Shakespeare to life in a theatrical setting.

NEW! STORYTIME SESSIONS

Step inside Bravo Books and watch stories come to life as each character pulls you into the pages of opera’s most beloved tales and tunes. Running at approximately 30-45 minutes in length, this program is perfectly suited for young ones as their first venture into the world of opera.

OPERA IN A TRUNK

Offered: September–May, Tuesday–Friday
Grade Level: All Ages
Cost: $200

A hands-on learning experience! This season, Opera Colorado is offering three Opera in a Trunk programs: Hansel and Gretel, The Marriage of Figaro, and Opera for Beginners. Each trunk is full of learning materials, costumes, props, and activities. The included study guide supplements learning and prepares students for seeing a performance, or for watching the DVD of professionally staged opera. The program comes with an interactive presentation by an Opera Colorado Teaching Artist.

IN-SCHOOL WORKSHOPS

Offered: September–May, Tuesday–Friday
Grade Level: All Ages
Cost: Starting at $150; varies depending on workshop length

Of all the fine arts, opera is the most collaborative and multidisciplinary. These in-school workshops offer proof! Led by Opera Colorado’s Teaching Artists, these fun and informative workshops integrate opera into classroom lessons and apply to a wide variety of subjects, including Performing Arts, Communication, Interpersonal Skills, Shakespeare, and much more. GENERATION OC

Offered: September–May; Limited Availability!
Grade Level: 1st–12th Grade
Cost: Starting at $1000

Looking for a program that teaches cross-curricular skills through a fresh and innovative approach? Gen OC is for you! This unique residency teaches 21st Century Workforces Readiness Skills and is gaining national attention as the future of integrated arts education. Using opera as the catalyst, participants work closely with industry professionals in one of three tracks—Marketing, Page to Stage, or Lit 2 Lyric—with an emphasis is on creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration. Teaching Artists guide you through every part of the process and each program is tailored to fit the specific needs, goals, and curriculum of your school or classroom.

Track Options:

  • Marketing: Students create original materials to market an Opera Colorado production to their peers.
  • Page to Stage: Students write, produce and perform their own original piece inspired by a literary source.
  • Lit 2 Lyric: Students take literary text to a new level as they update it into modern song lyrics.
