Welcome, KOSI listeners! Your Opera Adventure Starts Here
Think of it like live theater, but with a full orchestra, dramatic plots, and vocals so powerful they don’t even need a microphone. It’s bigger than Broadway and more emotional than your favorite playlist.
Don’t worry about what to wear or whether you “get it.” Just bring your curiosity—and maybe a friend to share the experience with.

About the Shows
La traviata | Nov 1, 4, 7, 9 | 2025
Opera’s most beloved tragic romance. Violetta is a glamorous Parisian courtesan who finds her true love, Alfredo—only to be faced with cruel obstacles. While the drama might tug at your heartstrings, the music will leave you breathless, with acrobatic vocal feats in arias like “Sempre libera” in act one.

Madama Butterfly | May 2, 5, 7, 8, 10 | 2026
This heartbreaking tale of survival and honor has captivated audiences for decades. Cio-Cio-San (Butterfly) is a young Japanese geisha, fighting for her family’s future as she commits herself to the American Naval officer, Lt. Pinkerton. The unforgettable music of this opera paired with the shattering story will definitely leave you teary-eyed, especially in “Un bel di vedremo,” from act two.

Is Opera for Me?
How long is the show?
Each production is around 3 hours, and depending on the show, there will be 1-2 intermissions lasting around 20 minutes each.
What should I wear?
Anything you want! Whether you want to stay comfy or use this as an opportunity to wear those fancy clothes you never get to wear, we’re just happy you’re spending time at the opera.
Will I be able to understand it?
This season, both operas are in Italian—but there will always be English subtitles above the stage and/or displayed on the seatback in front of you.
We also highly recommend reviewing the plot of each opera beforehand. Unlike at the movies, we find it’s helpful to “spoil” the plot of each opera for yourself, as it makes it much easier to understand and enjoy the show. You can find long and short versions of the plots for each opera in their respective blog posts: La traviata Plot & Characters and Madama Butterfly Plot & Characters.
Can I bring a date or friend?
Yes! The opera makes a great night out or date night experience.
