Music by Frances Pollock
Libretto by Jessica Murphy Moo
A Co-Production with Central City Opera
Fall 2026

Kenzie is a fifth grader with a BIG imagination and an even bigger love of adventure. When trouble at home forces Kenzie and her mom to move into a family shelter, everything suddenly feels confusing and uncertain. At school, kids ask questions she doesn’t want to answer, and Kenzie wishes she could vanish into her favorite video game—a place full of starships, space-kittens, and endless possibilities. But real life won’t let her hit “pause.” Her asthma slows her down, and the real world keeps calling her back. As Kenzie faces her fears, she discovers something important: finding a home isn’t just about a place—it’s about courage, friendship, and realizing she doesn’t have to face things alone.

The 45-minute, English-language production features four professional singers accompanied by piano. Originally co-commissioned by Lyric Opera of Chicago and Seattle Opera, the work has been praised for meeting young audiences where they are by addressing themes of housing insecurity and resilience without talking down to children or reducing complex circumstances to a lesson.

The production is particularly suited to classroom preparation and post-performance discussion. Educators will receive curriculum resources in advance of performances, and the story naturally supports conversation around social-emotional learning, community belonging, and the role of imagination in navigating adversity—themes that resonate across grade levels and learning environments.
