Bio

German-born soprano and educator Anja Burmeister brings a rare combination of native linguistic expertise, professional performance experience, and extensive pedagogical knowledge to her work as a German diction coach. Trained at the Juilliard School, she has performed extensively in opera and concert in Germany and the United States.

With more than a decade of experience teaching German diction, Burmeister is praised for her distinctive approach of always placing diction within the musical and vocal context—helping singers achieve authentic German pronunciation while preserving the natural expression, phrasing, and musicality of the voice.

Her coaching credits include San Francisco Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Seattle Opera, Marlboro Music Festival, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Houston Symphony, as well as leading young artist programs including Merola and Adler Fellows, Butler Studio, and Atelier Lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal. She teaches at McGill University, Université de Montréal, and the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal.
